The 50 best pubs in Bratislava (2024)

Slovak Pub is a popular tourist spot in Bratislava with 14 themed rooms featuring original decorations and furniture from different periods of Slovak history. Live accordion music is usually playing, and the basic but fresh Slovak cuisine is prepared here. The bar is divided into 11 rooms, each representing a different era of Slovak history.

The waitress had an amazing English and was able to help in everything. The menu was big, from traditional slovakian cuisines to vegetarian food, there was everything. The prices were okay for the good quality of the meal. They had a home-made beer which was fantastic. The pub was lively and had a nice atmosphere. Definitely recommend!

We went there based on the number or reviews and good rating. As some other people mentioned, service was a bit long and waiter not always present. On the other side the food was amazing and cheap. The main dish really reminded me of my grand-mother cooking and I loved that! Soup was a bit cold but still fine. Don't except a super clean place, this is a pub with cheap/good beers! Worth a visit for sure!

The food is typical Slovak. Very tasty. Portions nice. They offer different sizes of dishes with 3/5/7 pieces.I prefer to order a variety of dishes.Service good but bad knowledge of English.A place where also locals eat.Atmosphere good for a pub.Would recommend and we’ll return.

My husband and I came here 8 years ago and decided to come back last week because we remembered how we enjoyed it so much. We had a creamy garlic soup and cabbage soup with sausage and they were tasty. The garlic soup has lots of garlic, which I love. We also ordered the Slovak Platter for 2 person and they were delicious. We couldn't finish it because the soups were already filling.

We wanted to go to the other one but it had closed just as we arrived. We asked them if they had any recommendations for us and they recommended this one *Slovak pub*. It was quite big with lots of seating areas. Food was great and the plating was gorgeous with their flag on it. It was close to all the main locations in the centre. Easy to get here. Definitely recommend.

I loved dining on my last night in Bratislava here. I loved the place, with an excellent themed atmosphere of the history of Slovak cuisine. The staff is super friendly and we feel very well taken care of. They have a very characteristic menu with reviews of the restaurant and in English. I absolutely recommend this place for a better approach to the culinary culture of Slovakia.

Great place with great local food and reasonable prices! We went here during a short trip to Bratislava after seeing the place featured on YouTube. The garlic soup was fantastic, so creamy and delicious, served in bread with melted cheese so it was like cheesy garlic bread! The place is in an old historic building and it's really interesting as you come upstairs into the restaurant.

Awesome Slovakian restaurant and pub. Great menu with lots of variety and really affordable prices. We tried the garlic and cheese bread soup, ribs and dumplings and it was delicious. The waiter was son kind and helpful.Without doubt a must visit in Bratislava.

You should definitely visit this pub, because it's very traditional and it's utterly cozy and the atmosphere is sooo warm!It has many tables and rooms to choose from, we picked the last on the end and right, next to the windows. The prices are pretty reasonable, there are some plates that were very cheap, some with normal prices and some which were maybe a little bit overpriced. The cuisine is traditional and for me personally, everything was kind of heavy for the stomach, but it depends on what you're used to eat! It was a really pleasant visit there and that's why I recommend it!

If you're looking for the ultimate Slovak cuisine experience, this is the place to go! The menu had so many great dishes, we couldn't decide what we wanted to eat! People were coming in left and right, and there was even a Korean food blogger recording her episode as she was eating her meal. Highly recommended!!!!!

We went for lunch. It was a nice, cozy place. We ordered the fried cheese, potato perogies with meat and the chicken steak with ratatouille. Everything was very good. The service was also good. Would definitely eat here again.

Laura S — Google review

Great popular spot for some traditional food. Had pero his, sausage, Schnitzel, garlic soup and cabbage soup. Prices were really reasonable. Seems that they have a certain farm where they grow a lot of the produce at. Felt a little like a tourist spot, but nothing blown out. Would recommend to anybody. Total bill came to about 35 euro.

Best food I have had in Slovakia! Seek this place out, order anything, be happy. The decor and pub itself is incredible and worth the visit, but the food take you to a whole other level...

Slovak Pub is a must visit. Great ambiance and great food. We had made reservations but the place is huge so they said we can sit wherever we want. We loved everything we ate.We only spoke English so it was difficult to get food recommendations from the server. So make sure you check their menu and order some of the classic Slovakian dishes.Have a look at the pictures of some of the mouthwatering dishes we ordered!

🥟 We tried the platter for two which included dumplings and pierogi, absolutely delicious! Would have loved to eat more of those. The beef was good but not super special. The pork instead was fantastic, really nicely season, well cooked, super soft.🍺 We tried the local draft beer, very good and affordable.🤵🏻‍♂️ The waiter was super nice to us, always attentive, and our dishes were served super fast. Also they took a reservation for us (we had to go in person to ask for one) and it was all super simple. We waited no more than 5 min to get our table.💶 At a price of ca. 32 EUR per person, including appetizer, water, beer, and main dish, it's on the affordable side. Would definitely recommend the place for Slovak cuisine.

The building has a very old look to it, which I loved! Unfortunately the seats we’ve had was probably some of the most uncomfortable seats I’ve ever sat on. Luckily the food and service made up for it. But be warned, some of the traditional food is quite bland so it’s not for everyone. I however really enjoyed having the experience but some of the people I’ve gone with didn’t. Worth visiting just to try the new cuisines.

Really loved this pub. Not too expensive, and a wide array of Slovakian food. Service was fast, food was good, and overall just had very traditional/kind of medieval vibes. I loved it. Would recommend if you're visiting the old town as a tourist for sure.

Ruthie R — Google review

We had to wait a bit but it is definitely worth it. The waiter was really kind and the atmosphere was brilliant. We had onion soup which was the best and platter for two and chicken and cheese inside a bread. All food was fantastic but very cheesy so you should drink some good beers with them

Ian L — Google review

Very cozy place with great traditional food and friendly staff. We had to wait longer than expected for food and drinks but the place was packed full so it's understandable. We had a great time and will definitely visit again of we get the chance 🙂

Isabela R — Google review

Proper pub with a traditional menu. Prices are all good and the food is cracking it is easy to see why this place has such a high review score. We ordered wayyyy too much food as we were too hungry when we arrived. Be cautious as the portions are very good.Try the potato dumplings of the beef goulash you truly wont be disappointed. All in for us with a sharing platter and two other mains (I did say we had ordered too much) a glass of good red wine and a 1lt jug (2 pints) of beer came to about £35

Mr B — Google review

The restaurant is nice from the inside. We liked the furniture. We didn’t wait long to get a table. The food is not expensive and the personal is friendly. If you like cheese and bacon, you are at the right place and you will love it. We loved the garlic soup but the other dish was too much for us. But I would recommend to try it.

Ahmed M — Google review

We ordered the three-combined Slovak dish, and it was really tasty. The sheep cheese was so so good!!! However, the service was kinda slow. So prepare yourself for a 3-hour lunch or so……

Shih-Kai W — Google review

Food was good and they have a lot of options on their menu. It is not overpriced like other places of Slovakian food in the city center. The place is really huge and there are several areas where you can sit.Service was good, although it took a little bit of time to get our food.

Nina H — Google review

I have always mixed feelings about this restaurant. I love their cuisine, the food tastes really homely and good, the interior is like from a real Slovak village and they have a lot of seating, so you can come with a larger group. On the other hand, the staff is horrible, I don't remember it ever being better, they are rude and slow, and they have no problem arguing with you.

Cirrus S — Google review

Unbelievable authentic Slovak Pub that we found thanks to other great reviews. Prices were reasonable compared to the other places in the area. A very cool atmosphere where you literally feel like you walked into a time warp & were transported to simpler times! I highly recommend you make the walk out of the busy hustle bustle expensive joints and make your way to this Pub!

Jayson S — Google review

I found out about this restaurant on the internet and wanted to try their food. We were served by an enjoyable lady after a one-hour wait. The lunch was tasty and up to our standards. I'm not sure I'd go back, but it's a good place to start if you want to try local food.

Amazing experience!!Very nice and friendly people, the food is also amazingI wanted to try and get the full Slovak experience with traditional meal and I was highly impressed with the food! The waitress also served me a Kofola, I must say it is the best drink!!Highly recommend to anyone coming to Bratislava. It will make your stay here even better!

Ambre P — Google review

Traditional pub with great traditional Slovak dishes. I would not say that the dishes are much cheaper than in old town. But the drinks are definitely reasonably priced. A homemade half liter beer for 2 Euros... hard to beat. The interior is cozy and traditional featuring a good sized terrace with outside seating. They will always refer to and recommend the No 1 dish potato dumplings but I went for the homemade potato pierogi with meat served on cabbage and definitely did not regret it 😋

Very nice, quaint and rustic restaurant. We were there shortly before 9 p.m. and if you don't take care of it yourself and proactively ask where you can sit, then you won't really be spoken to in the restaurant... The service could be more attentive in that respect but also generally with the orders, otherwise they were nice. Unfortunately, the vegetarian beetroot pierogies were already cold when they came to the table, which was a shame... and they had a slightly smoked aftertaste... The garlic soup was very tasty and warm and is recommended. When we asked for dessert at 9:30 p.m. we were told that the kitchen had already closed... It would have been nicer if we had asked for something to eat beforehand.

Our local friend took us here while we were visiting from USA. We loved everything, the staffs were nice, food was awesome, and also the ambience was great. Love it! Definitely recommend this place.

Asri P — Google review

Wow!If you want to feel the authentic slovak culture and cuisine, the food was very good and the portions are very big , you wont be hungry after visiting this place, the service is good but a bit slow (the place it self is giant) get one of the tasting platters they give you good variety and value for your money.

Blinder R — Google review

Really good and typical place recommended by locals. You will find a variety of Slovakian dishes. We tried the garlic soup that it is served inside a bread (recommended if you love garlic), the cabbage soup, and the dumplings with crushed nuts.

Very nice atmosphere, decorations, music, and staff (English speaking too). Building is an old church north of the main square. Got potato dumplings and peroghy filled with potato, sheep cheese, chives, bacon. Very affordable, €12.

Neha P — Google review

We wanted to try typical Slovak food and this place appeared highly recommended. It lived up to our expectations! Not a lot of vegetarian options but we could order the tasting platter without the bacon and it worked just fine.Tasty homemade beer.Good prices. The vibe of the place was superb, they have lots of tables as well. We went on Easter Sunday and it wasn’t crowded.Important: you should tip here as it is usual for the country. Easy to forget when traveling through other European countries!

This place is a MUST VISIT for me. It is not that the food is exceptional and their prices are very good, you also get the whole historical experience and friendliness form the people that work there. We ate so much that at some point we couldn’t breathe. The food was handmade not prepared in advance and frozen like other restaurants in the area. I love a local place with honest hard working people. Each dish had a special meaning and our waiter Michael made sure we knew. This guy went above and beyond to make our experience amazing and for me this shows how much he values the people around him. Michael I said it before but I have to state it again, keep making people happy with your stories and your smile. You are a unique amazing human being.

This place is truly a paradise, I am not exaggerating. A restaurant that has great food and you will want to come to everyday every lunch or dinner. We tasted these things with my friend: creamy garlic soup, Slovak platter, potato dumplings, sausage, homemade cips and amazing beer. Sorry beers (: All traditional foods were great. None of them disappointed us. You should definitely taste these all Slovak cuisine.

I have a feeling that the older Bratislavan restaurants work together on creating a similar menu and general experience. I don't know if that is true - but both places we went to had the same distinctive style of menu and overall atmosphere, and both places were a bit lacking and disappointing when it came to the food. Which is sad, because you would come here to taste the best versions of typical Bratislavan (or Slovakian) food - but it falls short. To be fair, my food here was nice in flavour - but not wow, and also not much. I liked it because I came here in the late morning, I don't think I would have been satisfied if I would have ordered this in the afternoon or for dinner. My girlfriend's portion size was good, but her soup also wasn't wow, merely fine (I know it can be better). The service was slow, and in the end we were 'forgotten' for over fifteen minutes (while we were here with all our bags, on our way to the train station...). We stood up and asked multiple people of the staff if we could pay, but we kept having to wait, and it seemed our waiter was busy doing the dishes. At long last, the staff allowed us to pay, and then asked us for a tip. When we declined, the staff visibly became annoyed. Really bad.And all this brings me back to my first point; I suspect these restaurants are cooperating together to serve the same foods with the same quality standards, so that they don't actually need to compete on making the most delicious foods possible or providing the best experience possible, but can just get away with doing the minimum. That is, at least, the feeling that remained when I left this place.

I had the garlic soup and we shared a dish for two including two kinds of dumplings and potatoes with bacon. The soup was good although a little salty, The dumplings were actually great, but the potatoes with bacon were nothing special. Be prepared for big portions. Overall I liked the food, I don't regret it at all.

Came here based on recommendations from YouTube. Interesting interior, with different rooms for smoking and non-smoking, there is a terrace. The food was delicious, but the expectations were high. The sauerkraut soup was good, with an original sourness. For the main course there were dumplings with local cheese and bacon - tasty, but not extraordinary. The craft beer is local, good, but the price for it (more than 7 euros) was a little surprising :(. The portions here are huge, so I had to take halves. And also, if you want to have time to eat, try to come before 9, 10 pm, at 11 in this zone all restaurants are closed and you can only eat at kebab shops or McDonald's.

Fiodor K — Google review

Firstly , the garlic soup and the halusky were not my taste but the chicken soup and the beer were good. The prices are high but probably the "cheapest" you can find in Bratislava. They charged us 2.5€ extra for a cup of rice in the plate ... the plate comes only with meat !!! So we paid 8.5€ for chicken and mushrooms and you have to pay extra if you want something as a side-dish . The staff was moody and they kinda wanted us to tip them as well. I don't recommend this place .

If I could give more stars I would! Slovak Pub was recommended to me by a tour guide and what a recommendation it was. The atmosphere was amazing, each room has its own story, I was in the poet room. You can find your own table and the waiter will come to you. The waiter was wonderful, he went through the menu with recommendations, I chose the garlic soup and the taster for one. Both were amazing, I was told these are traditional meals. I couldn’t finish them all! I got 10% off with my Bratislava card. Was reasonably priced though. My only regret is not buying a wooden postcard to be posted out to me.

Such a great atmosphere and the food was amazing! We are traveling from the US and were not sure what to expect when it came to Slovakian food. The dumplings were hands down delicious. The ribs were VERY good, and I'm a southerner and have had plenty of good ribs in my life. The picture I posted is of everything we got, and I recommend it all!

Brianna T — Google review

An authentic pub with traditional setting inside and traditional menu at a really good price. The food was lovely. Service was a little slow and they did mess up taking my order but I would however visit again.

Vin C — Google review

I loved this pub. It has a lovely local Slovak feel to it. Gives you the opportunity to be able to sample some local cuisine. We tried potato dumplings, stuffed potatoes and the local garlic soup in a bread bowl. The price of food and drink was very cheap and overall a very good visit here.

Caitlin B — Google review

In this authentic pub in the center of Bratislava, you can taste typical dishes of slovakian cuisine! The place is really nice, with wooden interior and cozy atmosphere. Staff is friendly and polite. The food is delicious and served in generous portions! We loved the cabbage soup, the garlic soup, the traditional gnocchi with sheep cheese and butter, potato dumplings, pork chunks and goulash!! Of course, don't forget to accompany your meal local draft beer, dark or lager 👌🏻👌🏻. The prices are very reasonable too.

I grew up in Niagara Falls so I’m used to the tourist trap restaurants, so I was a little leery, but took comfort this was away from the main tourist area. This place was fantastic and one of the highlights of my entire trip. The garlic soup and Haluski was simply outstanding. A must stop to eat when venturing into Bratislava.

Shane F — Google review

First night in Bratislava and this place was just perfect. Just needed a snack and some beer and that was it. Had the sausage soup with cream which was delicious, full of flavour - maybe a little too much oil, but that's probably the way it is here in Slovakia. Large menu range and the server was very helpful in suggesting ideas to drink.Beautiful atmosphere - just right to unwind after a long day travelling.

Edward T — Google review

This is pretty much what we were looking for during our short day-visit to Bratislava. The food was very local and the overall atmosphere of the pub was very traditional. I would recommend for anyone who wants a typical experience at the heart of Bratislava. We ordered the 73' Zlaty Bazant beer, it was wonderful!
